Why Are These Tools Useful?

Custom fields and post types give you a lot of flexibility in WordPress, but they can leave behind unnecessary data, especially when fields are removed, post types are disabled, or field keys are changed. These residual data pile up, making your database messy and less efficient.

With these tools, you can:

  • Clear out unused rows and orphaned fields that just take up space
  • Update field keys or move posts between types without losing data
  • Keep your database lean, fast, and healthy

That's why we've built 4 focused tools (3 for custom fields and 1 for post types) to help you clean up your database with ease.

Let's dive into each one in detail.

Remove Orphan Fields

Sometimes, when posts are deleted in unusual ways, post types are disabled, or database errors occur, the custom fields linked to them don't get removed properly in your database. These orphan fields stay behind with no post, term, or user to belong to. Over time, they pile up, wasting space and even slowing down your site.

With the Remove Orphan Fields tool, you can clear them out in one click and instantly free up your database.

Remove Custom Fields

During your work, you might delete fields you no longer use. Even though the field disappears from your setup, the data that was saved in it stays in your database, adding unnecessary weight over time.

Now, you can remove data for a specific field key across posts, terms, or users in one go.

Change Custom Field Key

Let's say you rename a custom field in your field group, for example, from location to address. The problem is that existing data is still tied to the old key. Your new field appears empty, even though the data is still there.

The Change Custom Field Key tool safely migrates all data from the old key to the new one, so nothing gets lost and your content stays consistent.

You'll also get suggestions of existing field keys, making it easier to select and update.

Change Post Type

It's common to disable or remove a post type, but the posts themselves don't go away. They remain in your database, inaccessible from the WordPress dashboard. For example, disabling a restaurantpost type leaves all those restaurant posts stuck.

Therefore, this last tool - Change Post Types - fixes this by allowing you to convert posts from one post type to another (e.g., from restaurantto post), making them visible and usable again.

In this case, the posts in the Restaurant post type will be moved to Post.

Each tool is designed to be straightforward: just choose your option and click. Since these actions can't be undone, we strongly recommend backing up your database before running them.

Last Words

Maintaining a clean and optimized database is just as important as building great content. With these new Meta Box tools, you'll spend less time worrying about leftover data and more time focusing on creating value for your site.

Let's update Meta Box AIO to the latest version and start exploring these tools today. Keep your site clean, fast, and healthy, and experience the difference right away!
