Let AI Agents Build and Manage Your WordPress Data with Meta Box

For years, Meta Box has been evolving the way developers build WordPress websites. It started with code - the foundation of WordPress development, giving developers complete flexibility to build custom post types, taxonomies, custom fields, and more. Then, we broadened the way to complete the same tasks visually through MB Builder.

And today, Meta Box takes the next step by introducing abilities that allow AI agents such as Claude, Codex, or Cursor, and other compatible assistants to interact with your website data. Instead of writing code or clicking through interfaces, you simply describe what you want in natural language. AI agents, working with Meta Box, turn your intent into real WordPress actions.

Whether you're creating content, building a data model, or updating structured data, your workflow becomes faster, more intuitive, and more efficient.

Abilities allows you to manage core objects in WordPress with the help of AI agents. Specifically, you can create, edit, and delete:

  • Custom post types and custom taxonomies;
  • Posts and terms;
  • Field groups and fields;
  • Custom field values

What are Meta Box abilities?

Meta Box abilities are a collection of abilities that AI agents can use to interact with your WordPress site via the Abilities API.

Rather than acting as an AI assistant itself, Meta Box provides the tools that AI agents use to understand and manipulate WordPress data safely and accurately. This means you can work with your favorite AI coding assistant while Meta Box handles the interaction with WordPress.

To explore what you could do with Meta Box abilities and AI agents, simply follow these steps:

  • Connect your site to an AI agent.
  • Enter a prompt describing what you want.
  • Review the generated result in WordPress.

Let’s go into detail.

Create and Manage Custom Post Types and Taxonomies

Every WordPress project starts with defining its content structure. Instead of registering Custom Post Types and Taxonomies manually, simply describe what you need.

Start by creating a new custom post type. I've created the event post type and here's the prompt I used:

"Create a custom post type named Event, set the menu icon to "calendar", enable the "Enable abilities" option in the Features tab, and enable all abilities available under that option".

Ask AI to create a custom post type

After that, go to your site to check the result.

The created post type as expected

For the custom taxonomies, do the same.

Use AI agent to create custom taxonomies

To edit or delete it, simply enter the prompt.

Register and Configure a Field Group with AI Agents

Also, describe all the fields you want to have in the field group, and don’t forget to set the location for it. In my case, I use the prompt:

"Create a field group Event Details for the event post type. That field group includes 2 fields:
- Address (type: text, ID: address)
- Date and Time (type: Datetime, ID: datetime)"

This is quite similar to the prompt I used in the tutorial about the way to create cutom fields using AI. Then, in the backend, I have the expected field group:

The field group is created using AI

To edit the field group, for example, adding a new field, just go back to the AI tool and enter your request.

Ask AI to edit the field group

In the case that you haven’t had any idea for the fields in the field group, AI can suggest some suitable fields, then you edit based on them.

Meta Box allows you to do everything, such as setting, editing field label/ID, and adding/removing a field with AI agents.

Manage Posts, Terms, and Field Values

Once your content structure is ready, populating it becomes just as simple. With the abilities of post types, taxonomies, and fields, you can create posts, terms, and enter data for custom fields automatically. Write a prompt:

"Find 5 latest WordPress events in the world. They're posts of the event post type. Assign them to the corresponding terms (location). Then fill in all the custom fields of those events".

And this is what I have:

The posts created by AI

The filled in field values by AI

Within moments, the posts, taxonomy terms, and custom field values are all created and populated automatically.

To fully automate your workflow and unlock the full potential of AI, you can connect your AI agent to your own data sources. The AI can then retrieve, process, and populate your WordPress site with structured data through Meta Box.
